PROJECT DANDELION AT SKOLL WORLD FORUM

THE MOTHERS & BABIES MORTALITY CRISIS

This session will bring together practitioners, community representatives, funders, innovators, and policymakers to assess the levers to address maternal and newborn mortality in humanitarian and fragile settings, including in the Indo-Pacific region as host of Women Deliver.

TIME & LOCATION

Apr 30, 2026, 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM GMT+10

Melbourne Convention Centre Room 104, Convention Centre Pl, South Wharf VIC 3006, Australia

Globally, 58% of global maternal deaths, 39% of newborn deaths, and 41% of stillbirths occur in countries affected by humanitarian crises, despite their representing less than 13% of the global population. In the face of 2025-2026 health and humanitarian budget cuts, this highly disproportionate rate – driven by conflict and increasingly climate change – is expected to rise and represents a “hold-out” in global progress to end preventable maternal and newborn mortality.

This session will bring together practitioners, community representatives, funders, innovators, and policymakers to assess the levers to address maternal and newborn mortality in humanitarian and fragile settings, including in the Indo-Pacific region as host of Women Deliver. It will identify both “investable” and emerging solutions across technology, policy, practice, and financing mechanisms, leveraging the experience of women and girls from frontline and indigenous communities at Women Deliver. And it will outline potential next steps to build momentum around the solutions throughout 2026.
