A prerequisite for climate justice is achieving equality in who takes climate decisions. Despite their outsized role in community resilience, adaptation action, and environmental stewardship, women remain markedly underrepresented in the highest levels of climate decision-making. GWL Voices' new Spotlight report on Women in Global Climate and Environmental Leadership, contextualises the conversation on gender-equal climate governance with new figures spanning over 30 years of data on leadership and participation at seven of the most influential multilateral climate and environmental institutions, including the three Rio Conventions. The launch of the report at London Climate Action Week 2026 brings together women climate leaders across generations, think-tanks, research institutes, civil society, and others, providing a timely and much-needed quantitative and qualitative overview of how power is experienced and exercised by women in multilateral climate and environmental governance - with a view towards creating a fairer and more effective system.
